Volunteer Spotlight: Marilyn Way

MarilynWayFor sixteen years, Marilyn Way’s cheerful spirit and friendly nature have helped CscVvsb in countless ways. As Volunteer Coordinator for five years, Marilyn worked hard to build a dedicated volunteer corps that provided thousands of hours’ worth of help with events, front desk staffing, and office work. After her retirement in 2011, Marilyn continued to give back to CscVvsb, scheduling the front desk volunteers, interviewing potential volunteers, and doing front desk reception shifts herself.

Marilyn first learned about CscVvsb when she participated in the Revlon Run/Walk in memory of a dear friend who had passed after battling cancer. Learning that CscVvsb (then The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura) was a beneficiary of the Revlon Run/Walk, Marilyn decided to check it out the following week to see what the organization was all about. One visit convinced her that this is where she wanted to give back.

“My favorite part of volunteering is knowing that I’m giving to an organization that loves and supports its participants along the path to recovery,” says Marilyn. “I also enjoy seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of our participants, and working with the most dedicated group of volunteers, many of whom have become life-long friends.”

To those who have not experienced the joy of giving back, Marilyn offers this: “I believe volunteering will reward you in many beautiful and unexpected ways. My life has been abundantly richer and happier and I am a better person as a result of giving to CscVvsb. You really get back what you give. If you want to experience greater health and wellness in your life, become a volunteer!”
